Harvesting & Log Marketing

We manage your harvest from the first assessment to the final payment, and sell your logs to the markets that pay best for them.

Overview

One team from first assessment to final payment

Harvesting is when years of growth turn into a return. Decisions on timing, roading, log-making and sales make the biggest difference to what you receive.

ForestryCo manages the whole process for you. We plan the harvest, engage and supervise experienced crews, manage health, safety and environmental compliance, and sell your logs to the buyers that pay best for them, with clear reporting at every stage.

Harvest management

Harvest planning & management

Good planning protects your return and your land. We design roading and skid sites to suit the terrain, prepare harvest plans and consents, and select crews with the right equipment and track record for your block.

Log marketing

The right logs, sold to the right buyers

How a tree is cut into logs, and who those logs are sold to, has a big effect on your return. We cut to the specifications that earn the most, sell each grade to the domestic mills and export markets that pay best for it, and track every load from skid site to buyer.

“During the last two years, our company has been working with ForestryCo and we have found they will go out of their way to help and are incredibly transparent about their capabilities.”

FAQs

Common questions

How do I know if my forest is ready to harvest?

Radiata pine is usually harvested at around 25 to 30 years, but the right time depends on tree size and quality, log prices, access and your own plans. A forest assessment gives you a clear view before you commit.

What is my forest worth?

Value depends on the volume and grade of logs, harvesting and roading costs, distance to market and log prices at the time of sale. We provide a pre-harvest valuation so you can make an informed decision.

What’s the difference between a managed harvest and a guaranteed price?

In a managed harvest you keep ownership of the logs and receive the market return after costs. With a guaranteed price, we buy the standing trees for an agreed sum before harvest and take on the market and operational risk.

Who is responsible for health and safety on site?

We manage health and safety across every harvest we run, and contractors are selected and monitored against our standards. ForestryCo holds SiteWise Gold 2026 and is Tōtika prequalified.

What happens to my land after harvest?

We’ll talk through your options, which may include replanting, establishing a carbon forest or returning the land to another use, and we can manage replanting for you.
